This South20 Hububalli hardwood-flooring product originates from the rain forest areas of Guyana, and Suriname. It is common for the Hububalli tree to reach 100 to 120 ft in height with trunk diameters of 2 to 3 ft. The tree grows fairly well-formed and straight. The wood product is produced by local natives specifically for South20 from the Hububalli tree that is native to these areas. South20 receives the material to the US in the form of raw cut lumber where it is placed in storage for air drying and kiln drying process. South20 will mill the lumber to specified dimensions to produce hardwood flooring and decking products.
Use:
Hububalli is recommended for wide use in floor coverings of residential homes with heavy human traffic and a desire for a more durable hardwood floor with a similar look of heavily grained Ipe'. Those who prefer hardwood floors in lieu of the conventional ceramic or carpet covering should utilize this hardwood product. The South20 Hububalli hardwood product offers one of the most durable woods on the market that will resist any sign of use and provide long lasting beauty. With the use of this product the covering becomes a permanent protection for the home or historic dwelling.
General Characteristics:
The Hububalli product's Heartwood is light brown to red brown usually attractively figured with narrow to wide darker stripes and streaks. Sapwood is more or less distinct, pale yellow or light gray brown around 5-8cm. The texture is medium; luster low to medium; grain is straight, sometimes interlocked or wavy & rather oily looking.

Basic specific gravity (oven dry weight/ volume) 0.85 to 0.97; air-dry density 68 to 75 pcf.

Drying and Shrinkage:
This Hububalli Wood is rated to air dry moderately difficult and slow. It seasons at moderate rate with only slight checking and warp. Kiln schedule T3-C1 is suggested for 4/4 stock. Shrinkage to oven dry: radial 6.6 %; tangential 8.0%; volumetric l 3.2%. Movement after manufacture is rated as small.
Working Properties:
The Hububalli Wood is moderately difficult to work especially with hand tools. The wood has a blunting effect on cutting edges and finishes smoothly. It is moderately easy to glue with care and finish satisfactorily. Clear oil works best to bring out color and longevity.
Durability:
This Hububalli product is very durable as rated by field exposure trials. Heartwood is also rated moderately to good resistant to attack by decay fungi and termites. The product is resistant to water. |
